We all are familiar with the Asus router’s performance, how well it works and how to setup Asus router. However, sometimes it may not work as per our expectations. There can be a few reasons behind it. These are:
- ISP issues.
- Cable connection problem.
- IP conflict.
- Mac Address cloning.
All the above-mentioned problems won’t allow your Asus router to connect to the internet. But, you can fix this problem easily through the steps mentioned below:
- Before troubleshooting the router, power cycle it.
- Check the cable connection between router and modem.
- Don’t forget to check the internet connection status of the modem.
Try accessing the internet now if it is working or not.
Anyways, if you are not being able to surf the internet from the modem, then check if the problem persists with ISP.
Steps to troubleshoot ‘Asus router not connecting to the internet’
Check cable connection:
There is an Ethernet cable that connects the modem to the router. This is the only medium of connecting both the devices together.
If there is a problem with the cable, the connection will get interrupted. As a result, no internet connection will work on Asus router and you find orange light on its top.
To check the cable, connect the alternate cable to the modem and the router and check if the problem has been resolved or not. If the router is still not working, then there’s a need to pay attention due to the following issues:
The router is overheating:
Do you remember the last time when you shut down your router? If not, then this may result in a ‘Router not connecting to internet’ problem. To prevent overheating, you must switch off the router once for a minimum of one minute and turn it on again.
Check IP conflict:
Do check the IP address of your modem and router, if it is from the same class, then this may create conflict. In such a case, you can replace the IP address of the router through the following steps:
- Open a web browser and enter 192.168.1.1 followed by ‘Enter’.
- Enter the username and password to log in.
- Click LAN from given options.
- Replace the IP address with 10.0.0.1 with the subnet mask.
- Click ‘Apply’ and ‘ok’.
Check internet connection settings:
If your Asus Router setup is not working or stopped working suddenly, then there is a need to check the internet connection settings.
You must be aware of the thing that every ISP has its own set or kind of connections like PPPoE, static or dynamic. If you don’t know the type of connection your ISP has, you can contact the internet service provider.
- Go to the ‘Asus router’ setup page.
- Open WAN settings and select ‘Connection type’.
- Click on ‘Internet connection information’ page and press ‘OK’.
Factory resetting of Asus router:
If after implementing all the above-mentioned steps, your Asus route is still not connecting to the internet, then you will have to reset the router and set it up again. After resetting it will start working normally.
